Lightneer closes seed funding round at $5M.
Lightneer, a Helsinki, Finland-based gaming company working on a learning game, announced it has closed a seed funding round at $5M. The round was led by Chicago and San Francisco based GSV Acceleration, and also included Helsinki based IPR VC, Brighteye VC from Paris and Reach Capital from Silicon Valley.
Lightneer, founded in 2015 and led by CEO Lauri Järvilehto, has assembled a team made of Finland’s game industry veterans with backgrounds at companies like Rovio, Digital Chocolate and Gameloft which works on a learning game, Big Bang Legends.
The game focuses on stealth-learning key concepts from physics and chemistry, the story starting from the beginning of matter: the Big Bang. It also features a new learning model called “Learn To Play” including more in-depth learning content starting from 0.99 USD / month subscription, with 30 second mini-lectures from world’s top scientists.
The game was launched the game in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Finland, prepares to unveil it globally in January 2018, with activities focused in the US and the UK.
Prior to this transaction, Lightneer raised about $4M in outside capital.
