Aiven, a Helsinki, Finland-based developer of open source and cloud infrastructure technologies for companies, announced the completion of a $100 million series C capital investment round.

The money was raised from investors led by the UK-based VC Atomico, with participation from Salesforce Ventures and World Innovation Lab as new investors.

Existing investors Earlybird Venture Capital, which led series A in 2019, and IVP, which led series B in 2020, are also said to have increased their capital commitments to Aiven.

The transaction was made at a $800M valuation.

The investment's proceeds will be use for new product development and international expansion as the company plans to double its headcount over the next year and launch a formal open source program office.

Aiven, founded in 2016 by CEO Oskari Saarenmaa, Mika Eloranta, Heikki Nousiainen and Hannu Valtonen, is offering fully-managed services for popular open source projects like Apache Kafka and Cassandra, Elasticsearch, M3 and PostgreSQL in the public cloud.

The company works with customers of all sizes, including Comcast, Fiverr, Vidio, Wolt, helping with access to a modern, fully-functional open source data infrastructure in minutes based on their needs with end-to-end security, set-up, maintenance and 24/7 monitoring across all major public cloud platforms.

Prior to this round, Aiven raised a total of about $50 million from venture companies.
