Facebook acquires the Danish eye-tracking company The Eye Tribe
The Eye Tribe, an eye sensor company based in Copenhagen, Denmark, has been acquired by Facebook. The information is not officially confirmed by either parties but is a fact, according to data from the official Danish Company Registration.
The news comes a few weeks after the company had sent an email to its customer list, informing them that they "decided to go in a different direction with their technology and stopped development of their products."
The Eye Tribe software enables eye control on mobile devices, allowing handsfree navigation of websites and apps, including eye activated login, enhanced gaming experiences and cloudbased user engagement analytics.
The company was founded in 2011 by Sune Alstrup John (CEO), Javier San Agustin, Martin Tall, and Henrik Skovsgaard, who met in 2006 at the IT University of Copenhagen. The Eye Tribe raised $1.8M in external funding from private investors and $2.3M from the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation.
