PowerZ, a Paris, France-based startup working on the development of a gaming platform for education purposes, announced that it raised €3 million ($3.5M) in capital funding.

The money was raised from investors including Educapital, Hachette Livre and business angels from France Romain de Waubert, Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet, Erik Maris, Michaël Benabou and Octave Klaba.

PowerZ was founded in 2020 by the former Shadow team known for its Blade product, a dematerialized computer leased in the cloud via a box.

The team is led by CEO Emmanuel Freund and includes Arnaud Lamy (former CTO of Shadow) and Yann Carron of the Carrière .

The company aims to make learning school subjects fun in a virtual world, as it is working for building a video game that is an open world at the crossroads of Animal Crossing, Pokemon Go and World of Warcraft, where each quest would allow training on subjects as diverse as mathematics, programming, poetry or astronomy. The game should have education purposes, targeting both kids and parents.

PowerZ is expected to launch in early 2021.
