Vibrant
Digital payment solution (POS software) for making contactless payments via a mobile application.
offices: Aarhus, Barcelona
founded: 2020
vertical: payment processing, financial services, software services
founders: Kasper Enggaard Krog (CEO)
at Tech Tapas: Kasper Enggaard Krog
Vibrant is a new payment app that makes smartphones a contactless payment terminal. In a world with over 6 billion contactless cards, there are still 48% of small and micro European businesses unable to accept digital payments. Besides the administrative hassles, all these businesses often rely on cash, leaving them extremely vulnerable.
Vibrant arrived in the market to solve this problem and develop a payment solution for the world we wish to live in. At Vibrant, the business model is not riding on the megatrend of cashless and contactless payments. We go beyond all of that, we want to shape the future of payments.
Vibrant wants to provide an all-in-one payment solution for local heroes. Local heroes who go to work every day to serve cups of coffee, paint walls, and in general equip others to go through their days and everything in between. Our local heroes either do not have financial conditions to buy a payment terminal, and if they have, current terminals come with diverse complications and hassles of its own as the POS industry was created to satisfy larger companies. Our mission is to therefore transform payments into a simple, accessible, affordable & secure process for micro and small businesses locally, nationally & globally.
Green Triangle
Developer of agricultural, weather and natural disasters risk management tools used to fix underwriting for crop insurers.
office: Zug
founded: 2019
vertical: insuretech, financial services, software services
founders: Chris Savvopoulos (CEO), Grégoire Tombez
at Tech Tapas: Chris Savvopoulos
Today, farmers have two solutions: indemnity insurance where the farmer insures a level of production of their farm - say 5 tons per hectare of corn - and parametric insurance, in which the farmer insures against a specific risk factor such as drought or flooding - usually a factor that can be measured by satellite.
Farmers love indemnity because it directly insures what they care about, their livelihood. Parametric is in many ways the opposite: a complex product that requires in-person field visits from inspectors, has high loss ratios, and mostly exists in those parts of the world that subsidize it. Parametric is easy to model and scale for insurers, but farmers only buy it as a last resort - such as in places with less robust indemnity programs.
GreenTriangle uses low-cost satellite imagery, a proprietary dataset and machine learning to build tools that enable insurers to offer hybrids that combine the benefits of indemnity and parametric insurance: offer more attractive rates to less volatile farmers, simplify operations by eliminating field visits, while still insuring production instead of weather factors.
Keenious
Building a better Google Scholar
office: Tromsø
founded: 2017
vertical: education, deep tech
founders: Anders Rapp, Frode Opdahl (CEO)
at Tech Tapas: Frode Opdahl
Keenious is solving one of the biggest challenges with online search that even Google struggles with - requiring the user to know exactly what they are looking for.
Studies show that the number one thing people struggle with when researching online is to come up with keywords that will lead to good results. Keenious completely circumvents this problem by letting users search using entire documents and then suggests topics for them to further dig into what they find relevant.
Keenious is now applying its unique vision of searching to the academic market, with already happy active users and multiple universities signing up to becoming customers. Creating a new type of search brings many opportunities so Keenious will leverage the technology and insight built from being in the academic market to take multiple other verticals like law texts and patents.
