Exeger Operations AB, Stockholm, Sweden-based manufacturer of solar cells, announced getting into an agreement with SoftBank Group for a partnership deal involving a $10M capital investment.

Part of the deal is that SB Energy Corp, a Japanese subsidiary of SBG, will get involved to help Exeger accelerate the global rollout of its technology. SBG will also have the right to nominate a director for appointment to Exeger’s board of directors.

Exeger, founded in 2009 by CEO Giovanni Fili, produces solar cells that are meant to work efficiently in both artificial and natural light, with the potential to enable self-powered devices. The solar cells are used to integrate into mass market products like electronic devices, for a smarter use of energy, replacing the need to connect to an outlet for charging.

Exeger already has plans for capacity expansion in Stockholm, as it claims it could produce solar cells for 40 million headphone bands annually. In June, the company opened an office in Shanghai as part of the Swedish Energy Agency’s Shanghai Cleantech Hub.
