Lightyear announced securing £1.5 million in pre-seed funding led by Taavet Hinrikus and Sten Tamkivi.

Lightyear, a Talinn, Estonia-based startup building a retail investment platform, announced completing a £1.5 million ($2.1M) pre-seed funding round.

The money was raised from angel investors led by Taavet Hinrikus and Sten Tamkivi via Taavet+Sten, joined by Jaan Tallinn, co-founder of Skype, Ott Kaukver, Wander Rutgers, and Kaarel Kotkas.

Lightyear, founded in 2020 by Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer (both formerly with Wise), with the aim to build a commission-free investment platform.

The product is yet to be launched, with the MVP said to provide unlimited access to over 1,500 stocks and EFTs, with zero trading fees, no account fees, and no FX fees up to £3,000 per month. Past £3k, a nominal charge of 0.35% will be applied.
