Pond Textile, an Aarhus, Denmark-based company manufacturing biodegradable materials for the fashion industry, announced it had added capital investment in the company from Brightfolk AS.

The money will be used to build a business around a sustainable material manufacturing solution as part of the fashion hub from Aarhus.

Brightfolk AS is part of Heartland, a holding company company owned by Danish investor Anders Holch Povlsen, with core interests in Bestseller, a fashion ecommerce operation based in Denmark.

Pond Textile, founded in 2018 as a spinoff from Pond and led by CEO Thomas Brorsen Pedersen, is based on research and development of biologically based textiles to replace current oil-based materials. Their solutions can help minimise the current dissemination of non-biodegradable microplastics into the water supply and, at the same time, aims to become a more effective use of resources by improving the material’s ability to be recycled.
