payment orchestration SAAS in Europe
This week it was announced that Paydock, a British startup offering orchestration solutions to financial institutions, brand retailers and non-profit organizations, raised $30 million series A from Silverstripe. Paydock has been boostrapped since 2012 and works with the likes of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, retailing giant Coles, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The deal made me curious to dig more into the payment orchestration space - here's what I found:
- Payment orchestration platforms automate the payment process, enabling online merchants to reduce the fees to process their payments by routing transactions through the channels that offer the lowest fees.
- Payments orchestration is mostly used in e-commerce but it is also expanding into POS (Point-of-Sale).
- The customer profiles include merchants handling cross-border payments between businesses and consumers in multiple markets, as it manages all payment providers and settles diverse transaction flows on one platform, with in-built, market-by-market compliance.
- On the lower end of the market, typically merchants conduct 100,000 to 200,000 transactions per month, whereas the large scale ones can handle more than 300 million transactions per year.

- The payment orchestration sector is set to grow to $2.5 trillion by 2027.
- Platforms access setups range in cost from $200 to $1000 per monthfor basic services such as PCI compliance, authentication and fraud protection, topped up to $3000+ for advanced features like recurring billing, multi-currency capabilities or subscription management.
- In Europe Germany is by far the largest market in Europe with a market size that is 2X than that of France and 3X of Italy, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
