Aiven announced a $9M capital investment round from Earlybird, Lifeline Ventures and Risto Siilasmaa.

Aiven, a Helsinki, Finland based cloud data platform provider, announced the completion of an €8M ($9M) Series A funding round.

The funding was led by Earlybird Venture Capital with participation from Lifeline Ventures and Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa. Hendrik Brandis, partner and co-founder of Earlybird, joins the Aiven board of directors as part of the transaction.

The money will be used to enhance company's cloud data platform with more integrated solutions and to accelerate international growth.

Aiven, founded in 2016 by CEO Oskari Saarenmaa, Mika Eloranta, Heikki Nousiainen and Hannu Valtonen, provides a suite of open source data infrastructure services that now include the Apache Kafka event streaming engine and databases such as PostgreSQL and Apache Cassandra.

The company has offices in Helsinki, Finland and Boston, MA and is an ISO 27001 certified cloud data platform provider, operating managed open-source database, event streaming, cache, search, and graphing solutions for over 400 customers worldwide, including Atlassian, Comcast and OVO Energy.

Prior to this deal, Aiven raised a $1M investment financing round in 2017.
