Blast Premier announced raising €12.5 million in a round led by Johan Gedda and Vækstfonden.
Blast Premier, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based e-sports company, announced the completion of a capital investment round totalling €12.5 million ($13.5M).
The funding round was led by the Rocket Software chief executive Johan Gedda and Danish state-owned investor Vækstfonden. Contributors to the financing were also existing venture capital investors Creandum, Heartcore and Maki.
Blast Premier has its origins in RFRSH Entertainment, founded in 2016 by Nikolaj Nyholm as a media company focused on the esports vertical.
Blast was a CSGO tournament organized by RFRSH back in 2018. The company has transitioned its business towards tournament organizing and developed capabilities in broadcast studio shows, arena events, and online content. In 2019 it claims to have delivered 7 esports events across 5 continents.
Further down the road, by using the proceeds raised from investors, Blast plans to build its own streaming platform and offer enhanced coverage of its tournaments, experiment with new production techniques and create a direct relationship with consumers and fans.
Since inception as RFRSH Entertainment, the company raised roughly $25 million from venture investors.
