Gama, a Paris, France-based aerospace startup working on a space exploration and interplanetary transportation solution, announced a funding round closed at €2 million ($2.2 million).

The money was raised from investors from France, including BPIFrance, the French Space Agency (CNES), Possible Ventures, Kima Ventures and angel investors Nicolas Pinto (Apple), Marie Outtier (Twitter), and Romain Afflelou (Cosmo Connected).

Gama, founded in 2020 by Louis de Gouyon Matignon, Thibaud Elziere and Andrew Nutter, is working for the development of a low-cost solar sail that would use light as a means of propulsion for spacecraft. The company expects to launch a first mission in the second part of 2022, involving a CubeSat launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, after which a 789-square-foot solar sail will deploy at an altitude of 342 miles.
