Icebreaker debuts with a €14 million fund

Icebreaker is a new VC company, founded by Lasse Lehtinen, Aleksi Partanen and Riku Seppala, and which started to operate from Helsinki, Finland at the beginning of 2017.

The size of the fund is EUR 14 million, and it will focus on early-stage startup companies. The investors in the fund are Tekes Venture Capital (a Finnish state-owned Fund-of-Fund), OP Financial Group (the largest financial institution in Finland), Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company (a Finnish pension fund), Seafarers' Pension Fund (a Finnish pension fund), Tradeka Investment (a large Finnish co-operative), Ålands Ömsesidiga Försäkringsbolag (a Finnish pension fund), Icebreaker’s team and several entrepreneurs.

The fund invests in ideas and seed-stage technology companies with a competitive advantage based on technology. Investment amounts will vary between EUR 40 000 and 350 000. The fund's size allows "dozens" angelic and making seed investments.
