Unicorn Bio raised $3.2 million seed round led by Acequia, joined by SOSV, Marinya Capital, Alumni Ventures, C3, and CULT Food Science.
Unicorn Biotechnologies, a Sheffield, UK-based B2B startup developing a next-generation biomanufacturing platform to scale cultivated meat production, announced raising a seeed funding round closed at $3.2 million.
The money was raised from North American investors, led by Acequia Capital, with participation from SOSV, Marinya Capital, Alumni Ventures, C3, and CULT Food Science.
Unicorn Biotechnologies, incubated at Entrepreneur First in 2020 by Adam Glen and Jack Reid, is working for the development of affordable, fully automated biomanufacturing systems, that could possibly unlock cost-efficient platforms for rapidly scaling cultivated meat manufacturing and enabling the transition to animal-free agriculture. The company is still at prototyping levels, working to provide a proof of concept scale machine capable of producing kilograms of cells by the end of 2022, expecting to initiate pilot projects with partners in early 2023.
