Flightradar24 (private company)
Flightradar24 tracks positions of aircraft in real-time and turn that data into engaging consumer and business applications.
The data comes primarily from a proprietary, crowd-sourced network of 10,000+ so-called ADS-B receivers hosted by private individuals and companies all over the world and tracks in total 150,000+ flights per day. This network of ADS-B receivers is the largest in the world.
The largest source of income for Flightradar24's is app sales. The app is available in both a paid and a free version. In total, by 2016, the apps were downloaded nearly 30 million times. Download increases when the company gets mentioned in the media.
Another source of income is advertising revenue, since the company has close to 2 million users per day through various platforms.
And yet another source of money for Flightradar24 is from a subscription service where they sell the data to companies that are linked to the aviation industry.
