Eyescanner, a Stockholm, Sweden-based startup building a business around a mobile app that can detect the influence of drugs through image analysis of the eye area, announced that it raised a SEK 5 million ($600k) capital funding round.

The money was raised from investors from Sweden, including Optimizer Invest and angels Anders Jacobson and Daniel Pilotti.

Eyescanner, founded in 2019 by Stefanie Najafi and Jenny Johansson, developed a mobile app that uses an AI-based algorithm able to detect the influence of drugs through image analysis of the eye area. This is done by filming a sequence on a person’s eye.

Eyescanner is both faster, easier and less intrusive than other traditional methods such as saliva or urine tests. The software will ultimately be used by law enforcement agencies, companies that drug test their staff, treatment homes and in vehicles to detect drug-affected drivers.
