Fimmic secures €5M Series A investment round, looks to scaling WebMicroscope, its deep learning AI cloud for tissue diagnostics.

Fimmic, a Helsinki, Finland-based medtech company developing Deep Learning AI solutions for digital medical microscopy, announced closing a €5M ($6M) investment round.

The round was backed by new investor Ascend Capital Partners together with existing investors including ACME Investments and STO-Rahoitus. The money will be used to accelerate scaling of its WebMicroscope AI Cloud for tissue diagnostics.

Fimmic, founded in 2013 and led by CEO Kaisa Helminen, is a spin-off company from the Finnish Institute for Molecular Medicine at the University of Helsinki. The company developed WebMicroscope, a commercial platform that supports pathologists and medical researchers in tissue diagnostics through deep learning AI-based image analysis.

WebMicroscope aims to improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis which translates into more precise and personalized patient care.

Prior to this deal, Fimmic raised €1.6M from investors including Jukka Tapaninen, Leena Niemistö, Marten Mickos and Tekes.
