FocalSpec was acquired by TKH Group NV from the Netherlands.

FocalSpec, an Oulu, Finland-based company designing and manufacturing high-precision, high-speed optical sensors, announced that it was acquired by TKH Group NV, a Dutch listed technology company.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed and the transaction was made for the entire capital stock. FocalSpec will join the LMI Technologies group, owned by TKH, and strengthen further its position in inline metrology.

FocalSpec, founded in 2009 as a spin-off from VTT and led by president Sauli Törmälä, developed a patented Line Confocal Imaging (LCI) technology, used in diverse, demanding quality assurance applications e.g. in electronics industry. During 2019, FocalSpec made a breakthrough in mobile device manufacturing. The most important customers of FocalSpec today are system integrators providing QA functionality for the production lines of the world's leading mobile device manufacturers.

FocalSpec was owned by a range of investors from Finland, including VTT, Nordic Option, Veritas Pension Insurance, Sauli Törmälä as well as several other private investors. In 2017 FocalSpec received funding of €3.5 million.
