Soil Scout, a Helsinki, Finland-based startup providing soil moisture information via wireless sensors, announced in a press release the closing of a strategic investment funding round led by Husqvarna Group.

The money will be used to scale production so they can expand the customer portfolio with farmers, sports venues, and managers of green spaces around the world better manage their water resources.

Soil Scout, founded in 2013 and led by CEO Jalmari Talola, aims to optimize the water and energy usage by providing permanent buried wireless monitoring. The company built a system based on an idea developed by Johannes Tiusanen and capable of transmitting moisture, temperature, and salinity data in near real-time from up to 2 meters below the surface, for up to 20 years, maintenance-free.

Soil Scout works with customers including Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia Phillies.
