ICA Gruppen merges its own Minutkliniken with Min Doktor in a $60M deal.
Min Doktor, a Malmö, Sweden-based digital health startup, announced getting into an investment agreement with ICA Gruppen, a a Swedish retail group with a focus on food and health. .
ICA Gruppen’s investment in Min Doktor consists of a capital contribution of SEK 335M ($37M) plus ICA Gruppen’s other contributions, including the Minutkliniken business, which is valued at SEK 225M ($25M). Under the deal, Minutkliniken will become part of Min Doktor. The capital contribution is intended to cover the costs of future years’ expansion.
Min Doktor will be 42%-owned by Apotek Hjärtat, part of ICA Gruppen and owner of Minutkliniken, and 58%-owned by other owners, including EQT Ventures.
Min Doktor, founded in 2013 by Magnus Nyhlén and led by CEO Jonas Vig, is one of Sweden’s largest providers of digital primary care services. During the last 12 months Min Doctor handled over 200,000 digital visits. The company has raised about $40M in venture money since its founding.
Minutkliniken, led by CEO Anders Nyberg, has been a subsidiary of Apotek Hjärtat since 2016 and offers vaccinations and simpler healthcare through nurses on location and doctors via web link. Minutkliniken currently has clinics adjacent to eight Apotek Hjärtat pharmacies, of which four are at ICA Maxi stores.
