Infineon buys Danish startup Merus Audio.

Merus Audio, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based start-up building integrated audio amplifier solutions, announced enetering into an agreement to be purchased by the German company Infineon Technologies.

The financial details of the transaction remaind undisclosed.

Merus was backed by the Danish state through VF Venture, which had invested in the company in 2012.

Merus Audio, founded in 2010 by Hans Hasselby-Andersen and Mikkel Hoyerby, creates energy-efficient integrated audio amplifier solutions. They maximize audio performance and battery playback time for smart home and battery-powered speakers while minimizing heat and design space.

Infineon Technologies AG, headquartered in Neubiberg (near Munich), Germany, is a semiconductor manufacturer founded on 1 April 1999, when the semiconductor operations of the parent company Siemens AG were spun off to form a separate legal entity.

In the 2017 fiscal year (ending 30 September), Infineon reported sales of around €7.1bn with about 37,500 employees worldwide.

Merus will be fully integrated into Infineon’s existing audio business and becomes part of the Power Management & Multimarket Division.
