Picterus, an Oslo, Norway-based mobile app used for assessing jaundice in newborns, completed an equity funding round of NOK 9M ($1M).

The money is part of a larger NOK 30M funding round including EU grants, and represents equity added to the firm by investors from norway including Harald Vartdal, Geir Lasse Kjersem, Gravifloat Technology, and LMG Marin.

Picterus originates from NTNU and was founded in 2015 by Gunnar Vartdal and Lise Lyngsnes Randeberg. The company has developed a mobile application that makes it easy for monitoring jaundice in newborns.

Jaundice causes more than 100,000 deaths among infants in the world annually, and can cause permanent brain damage to many newborns. Infants with jaundice need easy follow-up outside the hospital. Picterus' solution is affordable, easy to use, and can easily be used even in areas with scarce resources.
