Shape Robotics, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based robotics startup, raised $230k in seed money from Syddansk Innovation.

The company, founded in 2015 by CEO David J. Christensen, CTO Moises Pacheco, Helene Hald Christensen and Mikkel Lucas Overby, develops Fable, a modular robot made of high-density plastic and which snaps together like Lego blocks.

The Fable robot modules can be made in larger and smaller sizes, and they can also scale up in functionality, with different types of sensors and applications. A robot would cost about DKK 30k ($4.5k) for a classroom kit of 10 robots, equivalent to the Lego Mindstorms kit.

Shape Robotics’ team includes a total of 11 people, including the four founders, former students, and businesspeople. Some of the staff has experience from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Lego A/S.

The company has already pre-sales totalling of €26k ($29k) for October 2015 in Denmark. It is seeking €750,000 and hopes to launch Fable in Europe and the U.S. in 2017.

Total investments received (USD): 1.86M
