Teacher Gaming raises $1.6M in funding to expand its educational gaming platform.
Teacher Gaming, a Tampere, Finland-based company managing an educational gaming platorm received EUR 1.3M ($1.6M) in capital investment.
The money comes as a EUR 920k ($1.1M) equity contribution from international investors, including Makers Fund, Founders Factory and angel investors Mitch Weisburgh and Carl Bärstad, and will be used to further fuel its sales and marketing efforts for its new educational gaming subscription service for schools. The rest of the funding was provided by Business Finland.
Teacher Gaming was founded in 2011 as an independent game development company expanding game-based learning into classrooms worldwide and building on top of Minecraft its own product, MinecraftEdu.
The company sold its product to Microsoft in 2016 and later on the same team developed a classroom gaming toolbox that helps anyone teach anything with games. Currently the Teacher Gaming brand is operated by the company 5 More Minutes.
5 More Minutes is also an investor in a Swedish educational company, Strawbees, which recently secured SEK 6M ($750k) in angel investing and a deal with a major distributor in Thailand for becoming a supplier to 30,000 schools in the country.
The owners before this funding include Founders Santeri Koivisto, Mikael Uusi-Mäkelä, Aleksi Postari, Raido Roomets, Johanna Kantanen, Joonas Pauni, Pertti Reponen, Toni Paavola, Marko Kärkelä, Carl Syrén and current major shareholders TeacherGaming LLC, Makers Fund, Founders Factory
