Valmet Automotive to get strategic investment from Chinese CATL
Valmet Automotive, an Uusikaupunki, Finland-based engineering-driven provider of vehicle manufacturing, convertible roof systems and consulting services, announced entering into a strategic investment partnership in electric vehicle solutions with CATL from China.
CATL Invest in Valmet Automotive and Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL), a leading global provider of battery and energy storage solutions, have entered into strategic partnership in electric automotive solutions.
Simultaneously CATL has subscribed to new shares issued by Valmet Automotive for a 22% ownership in the company. After the new share issue, the owners of Valmet Automotive are Pontos (39%), Tesi (39%) and CATL (22%).
Valmet Automotive, founded in 1968 and led by CEO Ilpo Korhonen, is one of the largest automotive contract manufacturers in the world. The company has produced cars for OEM’s including Saab, Opel, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, specializing in premium cars, convertibles and electric vehicles, employing over 2,500 professionals with locations in Finland, Germany and Poland.
Valmet Automotive benefits significantly from the investment and CATL becoming an active owner of Valmet Automotive. CATL bring new resources and capabilities for Valmet Automotive to invest into the development of its capabilities, offering, operations and competitiveness in Finland and Central-Europe.
