Barkibu, a Galician startup based in Madrid and providing pet care services in a digital way, announced the completion of a $5.6 million funding round.

The money was raised from investors from Spain including The Venture City, Alma Mundi Ventures and CDTI. Barkibu was part of The Venture City's incubator program in 2020.

Barkibu was founded in 2015 in A Coruña by Enrique Torres Redondo, Pablo Pazos Rey (CEO) and Patricia Mendez Seoane as a provider of digital health services for pets. The company, which is co-led by Alvaro Gutierrez, has developed a whole range of pet health-realted services, including consultations and software used to help assess the medical situation of a pet.

The company also built what they call a chatbot algo that sits on top of a structured database of pet health that can begin to build correlations, for example, linking clinical data and insurance data to see how health conditions progress, and how treatments affect them. This is a B2B side of business, as it's combined with data from insurance claims and sold as a white label app to insurance companies. Customers include Munich Re or Mars Petcare.

Barkibu previously raised funding from local investors from Spain and from Kima ventures from France.
