Bluetown completed a DKK 81M capital investment round.
Bluetown, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based company providing telecom services to people living in rural areas from Africa, announced raising a DKK 81M ($12.2M) capital investment round.
The funding is structured as fresh equity (DKK 51M) and debt conversion (DKK 30M) and was supported by investors and founders of the company, including Sønderborg Investeringsselskab, Egon Bruun and Lars Kolind.
The money will be used to further implement five ongoing projects in India and Ghana.
Bluetown, founded in 2012 by Lars Kolind and led by CEO Peter Ib, develops Internet connectivity equipment that can be adapted to different environments and landscape. With their base station, which operates 100 per cent on solar energy, the company offers affordable and sustainable Internet access to rural and remote areas, in countries such as Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania and across 4 Indian states.
