BoMill gets SEK 18.5M in outside funding for international expansion.
BoMill, a Lund, Sweden-based company providing equipment for sorting cereals, announced raising SEK 18.5M ($2.72M) in a new equity funding round. The money comes from Industrifonden, with a SEK 15M contribution, as well as from existing investors, such as Almi and Syngenta Ventures.
BoMill, founded in 2003 by Swedish biochemist Bo Löfqvist, has developed a special machine that can sort grains and seeds by quality. Each kernel is positioned and illuminated by short wave infrared light. By analyzing the transmitted light, the quality of the kernel can be determined according to protein content, for example. The entire process is lightning quick (24,000 seeds per second), making it possible to analyze and sort huge amounts of grain. A single machine has a total capacity of around three tons per hour.
