Etraveli Group was acquired by Booking.com for €1.63 billion.
Etraveli, an Uppsala, Sweden-based global online travel agency, announced that it entered into an agreement for being acquired by the Dutch from Booking.com
The deal was made for approximately €1.63 billion ($1.8bn), and the completion of the acquisition is subject to certain closing conditions, including regulatory approval.
The deal was made with the Luxebourg-based private equity company CVC Capital Partners, which acquired it for $570 million from ProSiebenSat.1 in 2017 - ProSiebenSat.1 had bought it from Segulah for $300 million in 2015.
Etraveli Group will remain headquartered in Sweden and operate as an independent business under Booking Holdings, led by their current management team.
Etraveli, founded in 2000 by Ralph Axelson and led by CEO Mathias Hedlund, is a leading e-commerce group within online travel, sprung from the merger of Swedish company Etraveli and Greek company e-Travel.
The company is offering a broad range of flights, accommodation and other travel-related services, and is active in 72 countries with consumer brands like Gotogate, Mytrip, Flightnetwork, Supersaver/Supersavertravel, Gotogate, Trip.ru, Pamediakopes.gr and the price comparison site Flygresor.se.
