Holocap, an Oslo, Norway-based software developer of a tool for capturing holograms, secured a funding round of NOK 3M ($344k).

The money was raised equally from local investor from Norway Kjeller Innovation and from Singapore-based investor Star Rise Venture. The company is priced at NOK 51.5 million ($6M).

Holocap, founded in 2017 by siblings Stian Børresen and Peder Børresen, developed a software tool that uses Microsoft's Kinect Sensor in order to "digitize" people, and create a digital twin, or an avatar that looks just like a real person.

The tool is capturing volumetric video, more commonly known as “Holograms” using a low cost depth camera. They call these files “HoloCaps”, and a HoloCap file may contain several dynamic 3D meshes, textures and audio-data.

The solution includes HoloCap Studio, a software to pre-record volumetric video and HoloCap Live is the software for real-time volumetric video. HoloCap recordings can be imported and played in Unity by using the HoloCap Player plugin.
