Overstory secured $1.7 million in a seed round led by climate fund Pale Blue Dot and joined by Powerhouse Ventures, Techstars and Futuristic VC.

Overstory, an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based startup building a vegetation intelligence platform, announced the completion of a $1.7 million seed funding round.

The money was raised from investors led by Sweden-based climate-focused VC Pale Blue Dot and included contributions from Powerhouse Ventures, Techstars and Futuristic VC.

Overstory, founded as 20tree.ai in 2018 by Indra den Bakker & Anniek Schouten, develops software used for providing forest intelligence by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), satellite imagery and computing power.

The tools are used by forest industry companies, corporates, NGOs and governments to make forest management more efficient and sustainable and to combat deforestation. Insights vary from detection of early stage deforestation to automatically segmenting tree species, estimating wood volume and classifying tree health.
