Retina Risk added capital investment from Iceland Venture Studio
Retina Risk, a Reykjavik, Iceland-based company providing health services based on a diabetic retinopathy risk calculator, announced closing an undisclosed amount of capital from Iceland Venture Studio.
The announcement was made at the same time with the launch of the investment company from Iceland.
Retina Risk, founded in 2009 by professors Einar Stefánsson and Arna Guðmundsdóttir, developed the first validated decision support system for management and follow-up of patients with diabetes or diabetic retinopathy. The objective is to provide point of care risk assessment for eye care specialists and more effective communication with patients and other providers
Retina Risk has received significant support from the academic society in Iceland and received grants from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund, the Icelandic Innovation Center, and commercial banks amongst others. First round of private investment was completed in 2011 and amongst shareholders are the University of Iceland and the Icelandic University Hospital.
