Rob Surgical secured €5M from Scranton Enterprises for developing the Bitrack surgical robotic device

Rob Surgical, a Barcelona, Spain-based manufacturer of robots for precision surgeoning, announced the completuon of a financing round totalling about €5 million ($5.5M).

The investment round was led by Dutch holding company Scranton Enterprises. The money will be used to obtain the CE marking for the Bitrack system.

Rob Surgical, founded in 2012 as a spin-off of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) by CEO Jaume Amat, Alícia Casals, Manel Frigola, develops the Bitrack System, an alternative to the current laparoscopy surgical.

The Bitrack platform is flexible, modular and open while combining manual and robotic surgery for hybrid minimally invasive surgery. The company sees it as an alternative to the Intuitive Surgical's Da Vinci system.

The system is in experimental use by surgeons from the Mayo Clinic in the U.S., as well as Barcelona university hospitals Clinic, Vall d’Hebron and German Trias. The company plans to build three new units between 2019 and 2021 for the finalization of the validation and industrial processes.

Rob Surgical has raised nearly $8.9 million from private investors and more than $1.1 million from public funding.
