Sensei, a Lisbon, Portugal-based startup developing a software tool for retail stores, announced the completion of a $6.5 million capital funding round.

The money was raised from investors from Spain and Portugal, led by Seaya Ventures and Iberis Capital.

Sensei, founded in 2017 by Joana Rafael, Nuno Moutinho, Paulo Carreira and CEO Vasco Portugal, developed an end-to-end software service that allows retailers to automate their stores via a frictionless and checkout free experience for shoppers. The platform uses a blend of cameras, sensors, and AI to automate stores, both new and existing, helping retailers manage inventory in real-time and also access insights into the way the stores are used.

Sensei previously raised €500K in seed from Sonae IM and a couple of startup accelerators.
