smedo announced a €1.66 million seed financing round backed by by APEX Ventures and Brandenburg Kapital.

smedo, a Berlin (Hennigsdorf), Germany-based healthtech startup developing a medical system for contactless vital data measurement in hospitals and nursing homes, announced completing a €1.66 million ($1.8 million) seed financing round.

The money was raised from APEX Ventures from Vienna in cooperation with Brandenburg Kapital, a subsidiary of the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg.

smedo, founded in 2019 by CEO Thomas Grellner, developed a piece of technology that makes it possible to continuously monitor the vital data of each patient without manual intervention or setting up a system. The system uses high-resolution signal processing from radar signals fully reflected from the surface of the skin and will incorporate a diagnostic approach that should enable early detection of fatal cardiac events such as a heart attack.
