Tencent acquires 36% from Fatshark
Fatshark, a Stockholm, Sweden-based independent game developer, announced that it sold a minority stake in the company to the Chinese strategic investor, Tencent.
The transaction totals around SEK 500M ($56M) and was made for a 36% stake, allowing Fatshark to retaining its independence and avoiding “any major changes” to its business.
In connection with the transaction, Tencent purchased the Altocumulus title, acquired shares from an existing shareholder and invested a total of SEK 100M ($11.2M), while the other owners dilluted.
Fatshark, founded in 2008 by Joakim Wahlström, Martin Wahlund (CEO), Rikard Blomberg and Johan Jonker, has become famous for developing Vermintide, released in 2015 and sold in over 2 million copies. The company has worked also on other work-for-hire projects for PC and consoles, including Escape Dead Island and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.
