Dohop raises money from Jon Von Tetzchner
Dohop, a Reykjavik, Iceland-based meta-search company for flights, hotels, and rental cars, announced that Entrepreneur and investor, Jon S. von Tetzchner has acquired a 10% stake in the company.
Mr. Tetzchner notably co-founded Opera Software in 1995 and holds stakes in a range of technology companies across several sectors. With this investment Mr. Tetzchner becomes the company’s third largest shareholder.
Dohop, founded in 2004 and led by CEO Kristjan Bjarnason, was launched on the premise of helping travellers find flight connections on low-cost airlines and later expanded to include all airlines. Dohop’s unique flight search engine allows travellers to find all available flight connections between any two or more airlines, without the necessity of an existing relationship between the airlines.
In addition to running the consumer website Dohop.com, the company also offers customized versions of its proprietary flight search technology to airlines and airports all over the world. Dohop’s largest customers are Virgin Atlantic Airways and Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy. The company’s technology helps travellers find connecting flights, especially between low-cost and legacy airlines that are hard to find elsewhere. This helps airlines and airports create an additional revenue stream while providing their customers with better service.
