Gitpod announced raising $13 million in funding led by General Catalyst.
Gitpod, a Kiel, Germany-based open source developmer platform used to automate the provisioning of ready-to-code development environments, announced securing a $13 million funding round.
The money was raised from investors led by General Catalyst, with participation from Speedinvest, Crane Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures.
Proceeds will be used to help the company to expand its position as the leading platform for development environment automation, as well as to grow Gitpod's open source community and relevant ecosystem partnerships.
Gitpod is built by TypeFox which was founded in 2016 by Sven Efftinge, Moritz Eysholdt, and Dr. Jan Koehnlein. The company is an open source solution used by more than 350k developers globally to automate development environments in a remote-first world. It leverages the version control system as the canonical source of truth to automate everything a developer needs to start coding. The framework aims to free engineering teams from the friction of manually setting-up local dev environments, to save dozens of hours and enable a new level of collaboration to create applications more quickly than ever before.
Gitpod previously raised $3 million in funding from Speedinvest, Crane Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures.
