Goals announced closing a $19 million funding round.
Goals, a Stockholm, Sweden-based startup developing a cross-play, multiplayer virtual footbal game, announced that it completed a $19 million capital funding round.
The name of the investors was not disclosed.
Later edit: The amount was raised in two stages, including a $15 million seed round led by Northzone, and joined by Cherry Ventures, Moonfire Ventures, Banana Capital, Not Boring Capital and Cassius. Angel investors include Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia, FC Barcelona player Gerard Pique, and Axie Infinity COO Aleksander Larsen.
Goals was founded in 2020 by ex-EQT Andreas Thorstensson (CEO), Göran Syberg Falguera, Hampus Ohlsson and Hampus Ericstam, is building a next gen football AAA (soccer) game that is free to play, cross-play, multiplayer first and esports ready. The company says that the product, which is yet to launch, will use a play to earn model where time spent and skill in the game will be rewarded through digital assets (NFTs) so more people hopefully can make a living playing the game.
