Jongla Raises €1.2M in Funding

Jongla Oy, Finland’s device- and platform-independent mobile messaging service provider, has received 1,225 million euro funding from Tekes and from a well-known group of private angel investors.

Investors include Sanoma Group’s former CEO Hannu Syrjänen, Economic Counsellor Kalevi Sivonen, entrepreneur and investor Janne Leino as well as several other private investors. In addition to the company’s founder and CEO Arto Boman, Jongla Oy’s majority shareholders are Chairman Juha Halttunen, Member of the Board Henry Sjöman and Commercial Counsellor Matti Kallio.

The company has developed an innovative service based on easy-to-use, cross-platform mobile instant messaging called Jongla®. The company’s mission is to connect young people around the world, for free. This funding allows the company to continue developing its product and roll out its business strategy, which calls for a major product relaunch this autumn.

Mobile instant messaging is a highly competitive sector that is experiencing rapid growth. “Thanks to the funding, we have been able to further develop our new technology. Our goal is to challenge current popular services, such as WhatsApp and Viber, while finding our own space from global markets. Our goal is enter especially into the Asian markets,” says Riku Salminen, Jongla Oy’s Chief Operating Officer.

The total value of funding to date, amounting to EUR 2.55 million, marks a significant step forward for the company to meet this challenge.
