Nabobil was acquired by US-based Getaround for $12M.

Nabobil, an Oslo, Norway-based company operating a digital marketplace platform for car sharing, announced that it was acquired by the San Francisco, US-based competitor Getaround for NOK 105M ($12.4M).

The announcement comes as early this year Getaround raised $300M and acquired Drivy, an European car rental provider. Nabobil's CEO Even Heggernes and the rest of the Nabobil team will join Getaround to continue current operations and oversee expansion in the region.

Nabobil, founded in 2015 by Jacob Tveraabak, Karl Munthe-Kaas, Christian Hager, Jenny Sjögren, Theodor Tonum, Thomas Grøndahl and Chris Moen, built a marketplace that makes it easy for people make money by sharing their car.

The company is active in 7 countries (France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Belgium and the U.K.) where it has 180,000 registered users and 7,000 cars available to rent. In May 2019, Nabobil reached 130,000 bookings, with Oslo as main market, accounting for 65% of all bookings.

Prior of being acquired, Nabobil raised $1.55M from outside founders, including Skyfall, local car dealer Miklagruppen and and angel investor Trond Riiber Knudsen.
