Sennder, a Berlin, Germany-based freight forwarder operator, announced extending its series D funding round with an additional $80 million.

The money was raised from new investor Baillie Gifford, which led the round, joined by all of sennder’s major shareholders. They include Accel, Lakestar, HV Capital, Project A and Scania. The company announced closing series D at $160 million in January 2021.

The new funds will accelerate sennder’s growth across Europe as the business strengthens its position in core markets and further expands into new regions. sennder will continue to take advantage of strategic growth opportunities, both organically and via acquisitions.

Sennder, founded in 2015 by David Nothacker (CEO), Julius Köhler and Nicolaus Schefenacker, built a digital platform aggregating a connected fleet of thousands of trucks and making it available to logistics providers.

The company has 800 employees, works with partners including Poste Italiane, Scania and Siemens, and is now supplying transport services to over 10 organizations listed in the German DAX 30, and 11 companies comprising the Euro Stoxx 50.

in 2020 sennder consolidated the market by acquiring digital freight forwarders Uber Freight Europe and Everoad. sennder also entered into a joint venture with the Italian postal service, Poste Italiane, making sennder Italia the largest domestic FTL (full truck load) freight forwarder.

The business is now targeting additional acquisitions of local road freight companies to enhance truck supply and increase network density on its sennOS platform. The announcement follows sennder’s recent acquisition of Dutch logistics player, Cars&Cargo, and strategic partnership with Zeitfracht.

Sennder raised a total of roughly $350 million from professional investors.
