Whiteboard.fi was purchased by Kahoot for $6 million

Digital Teaching Tools, a Helsinki, Finland-based educational software startup, announced that it was acquired by the Norwegian company Kahoot.

The deal was made for $6 million in cash and stock.

Digital Teaching Tools, founded in 2016 by CEO Sebastian Laxell and Jaakko Virtanen, developed Whiteboard.fi, an online whiteboard tool for teachers and classrooms that helps engage students both in the physical classroom and through remote learning.

Whiteboard.fi launched commercially in Finland in 2020 in addition to their free offering, and has grown its active users over 400% the last 6 months, reaching more than in total 7 million users on a 30 day basis with most of its educators in the United States and United Kingdom. The company raised funding at the end of 2020 from local investors from Finland, including Reima Linnanvirta.
